The Spirit of Giving
As the year 2018 draws to an end and we gather with our loved ones to celebrate the holidays, we are reminded of just how truly blessed we are. We have roofs over our head, food on our table, loved ones around us, and the faith and hope for what additional blessings await us in 2019. And although it's easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of the holidays, we must not forget to be grateful for all that we have, but more importantly, to give back to others.
"You make a living by what you get; You make a life by what you give." These words ring true especially during the holidays. It's been 2018 years since we received the most precious gift, the birth of our savior, Jesus Christ. Since then, we celebrate his birth by giving gifts to our loved ones. Often times we will spend exorbitant amounts of money on luxurious jewelry or the latest toys, and we justify it through the "spirit of giving," but what does that even really mean?
The true spirit of giving is doing for others with no expectation of getting something in return. That may be in the form of a gift you bought or made, or by offering your time to help others. There are no rules, requirements, nor limits to giving so long as the intentions are pure and selfless.
This holiday season, the US Hispanic Contractors Association was fortunate enough to give 200 bikes to children within our community, including some from the elementary they and the Austin Police Association adopted earlier this year, Walnut Creek Elementary. These bikes brought the grandest of smiles and immeasurable amounts of joy to children and their families, but none of it would have been possible without the help of so many generous and kindhearted people within our own community. From contractors and business owners, to city employees, politicians, and local law enforcement, everyone came together in such a selfless way to truly demonstrate the spirit of giving.
The US Hispanic Contractors Association is beyond grateful for the opportunity to serve the community alongside some genuinely incredible people, and we eagerly look forward to 2019 and on. From our family to yours, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
El espíritu de dar
A medida que el año 2018 llega a su fin y nos reunimos con nuestros seres queridos para celebrar los días festivos, se nos recuerda que tan verdaderamente bendecidos somos. Tenemos techos sobre nuestra cabeza, comida en nuestra mesa, seres queridos que nos rodean, y la fe y la esperanza de las bendiciones adicionales que nos esperan en 2019. Y aunque es fácil quedar atrapado en la histeria de los días festivos, no debemos olvidar estar agradecidos por todo lo que tenemos, pero más importante, devolverle a los demás.
"Te ganas la vida con lo que obtienes; Tú haces una vida con lo que das ." Estas palabras suenan verdad, especialmente durante los días festivos. Han pasado 2018 años desde que recibimos el regalo más precioso, el nacimiento de nuestro salvador, Jesucristo. Desde entonces, celebramos su nacimiento dando regalos a nuestros seres queridos. Muchas veces gastamos cantidades exorbitantes de dinero en joyas de lujo o en los juguetes más nuevos, y lo justificamos a través del "espíritu de dar", pero ¿qué significa eso realmente?
El verdadero espíritu de dar es hacer por otros sin ninguna expectativa de obtener algo a cambio. Eso puede ser en forma de un regalo que compró o hizo, u ofreciendo su tiempo para ayudar a otros. No hay reglas, requisitos ni límites para dar, siempre que las intenciones sean puras y altruistas.
En esta temporada de los días festivos, la Asociación de Contratistas Hispanos de los Estados Unidos tuvo la oportunidad de regalar 200 bicicletas a los niños de nuestra comunidad, incluyendo algunos de la primaria que ellos y la Asociación
de la Policía de Austin adoptaron a principios de este año, la Primaria Walnut Creek. Estas bicicletas trajeron las sonrisas mas grandes y alegría inconmensurable para los niños y sus familias, pero nada de esto hubiera sido posible sin la ayuda de tanta gente generosa y de buen corazón dentro de nuestra propia comunidad. Desde contratistas y dueños de negocios, hasta empleados de la ciudad, políticos y la policía local, todos se reunieron de una manera tan amable para demostrar verdaderamente el espíritu de dar.
La Asociación de Contratistas Hispanos de los Estados Unidos está más que agradecida por la oportunidad de servir a la comunidad junto con algunas personas realmente increíbles, y esperamos ansiosamente el 2019 y adelante. ¡De nuestra familia a su familia, Feliz Navidad y Feliz Año Nuevo!
